HYDROELECTRICITY
Hydroelectricity is created by gravity and water. In order to create power, it takes in the force of falling water from a high elevation. Hydroelectricity is a renewable resource, meaning that it can be replaced after being used. Using it would not damage environment, for it is a very clean resource. According to the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company website, Hydroelectricity prevents the burning of 22 billion gallons of oil or 120 million tons of coal each year. Even though it is a very good resource to create energy, it a bit costly. In order to install it, 10 million dollars will have to fly out of your pocket. The price right now may not look big to you, but the question is "How much of them do you need?" In order to have electricity from a hydro power plant, that area will have to be near a body of water. The bad thing is that most areas aren't close to a body of water, so hydro power would be out of the list. But our company, UK powerways, truly think that hydro power is the best renewable resource for England's beautiful city's Liverpool, and Manchester.
SO WHY IS HYDROELECTRICITY GOOD FOR LIVERPOOL
There are many reasons of why UK Powerways think hydroelectricity is good for England's city's Liverpool. England is surrounded by water so it wouldn't be hard to get it. Also where we are planning to put the hydroelectricity farm is next to a big lake called Boating lake. It is also near the ocean where the water power would be most helpful. It takes 300,000 workers to work at a single hydroelectricity plant which would be creating 500 jobs for the people living in Liverpool. It will produce 950 gigawatts. Hydroelectricity is renewable and clean. The process of generation of electricity does not pollute and water can later be used for irrigation, human consumption, etc. Hydroelectric energy contributes to the sustainability of our planet. Hydroelectricity is safe compared to nuclear energy and fossil fuels. Despite some accidents occurred in dams, usually hydroelectric power plants do not entail a great danger to humans. Dams can produce energy for decades, and require little further investments once they are built.
WHY IS IT BAD?
Hydroelectricity isn't always the best power source it may destroy or disrupt wildlife and other natural resources. Some fish, like salmon, may be prevented from swimming upstream to spawn. before producing Hydroelectricity it is necessary to build a dam, changing water levels and flooding large areas. It is also necessary to build roads and power lines. All that a strong impact on wildlife and the ecosystem.the construction of a large dam often requires that entire towns move out of the area. In the construction of the Three Gorges Dam it is estimated than 1.2 million people were displaced. Building a dam requires a very important initial investment. Last but not least in the past old dams often suffered breaches which led to floods and deaths. To build this power plant it would cost around 10 million U.S dollars.
NATURAL GAS
There are many ways of how Natural gas can be used to create energy. The most basic way is natural gas-fired electric generation consists of a steam generation unit, where fossil fuels are burned in a boiler to heat water and produce steam that then turns a turbine to generate electricity. Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, but commonly including varying amounts of other higher alkanes, and sometimes a small percentage of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, or helium. It is formed when layers of decomposing plant and animal matter are exposed to intense heat and pressure supplied by existing under the surface of the Earth over millions of years. The energy that the plants originally obtained from the sun is stored in the form of chemical bonds in the gas. Natural gas is a fossil fuel used as a source of energy for heating, cooking, and electricity generation. It is also used as fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals. It is a non-renewable resource.
SO WHY IS NATURAL GAS GOOD FOR MANCHESTER?
It would take up 1 square km. Natural gas is often praised as a clean energy alternative. It burns more cleanly than other fossil fuels, emitting lower levels of harmful emissions such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other oxides. Most natural gas appliances work even when the electricity is out. Since the natural gas system is underground, outages are rare. Natural gas appliances are faster and use less energy than electric appliances. 90% of the natural gas that enters the pipeline reaches you, the consumer. Only a mere 10% of the energy is lost in the process. In Alabama, natural gas homes produce 50% less carbon emissions than all-electric homes. Choosing natural gas appliances is an easy way to reduce your impact on the environment without sacrificing comfort or style.
WHY IS IT BAD?
Natural gas is a highly flammable substance that can cause significantly more damage should there be an accident. Natural gas leaks can cause fires or explosions, if not handled carefully. It is colorless, tasteless and odorless and cannot be detected by smell unless a special object is added to it. When natural gas is burnt, it releases carbon-dioxide, monoxide, and other carbon compounds in the atmosphere. These gases transfer carbon from the earth to the atmosphere, thus contributing towards greenhouse effect. To use natural gas, all the components except methane have to be extracted. This results in several byproducts such as hydrocarbons (ethane, propane, etc.), sulfur, water vapor, carbon dioxide, and even helium and nitrogen.
